On May 19, 2026, the Town of Greenwich designated the day Georgie Ashforth Family Concerts at the Greenwich Library Day, honoring a program that has enriched the community for more than two decades. Georgia “Georgie” Ashforth founded the Ashforth Family Concert Series in 2002, establishing free monthly children’s concerts held from September through June at venues across Greenwich. Georgie lived by the principle of doing “something bigger than yourself in the world,” a value reflected in the program she built.
The series introduces children of all backgrounds to free, accessible, and expertly curated classical music performances, through the support of Georgie and Henry A. Ashforth. Featuring ensembles from the American Classical Orchestra such as Peter and the Wolf, Storytime Quartet’s Aesop’s Fables, and Adventures in Opera, the program continues to educate children in global musical traditions.
Now in its third decade, the Ashforth Family Concert Series continues to thrive. Georgie believed “you can never see enough or hear enough,” and the program reflects her commitment to giving as many children as possible the experience of live classical music. Before her passing in March 2016, Georgie endowed the series, ensuring it will serve the community for generations to come. Today, it remains a cornerstone of the Greenwich Library’s cultural programming.
