Ashforth’s Annual Environmental Awareness Week

Ashforth held its 10th Annual Environmental Awareness Week event to promote sustainability, conservation and awareness at its owned and managed buildings during the week of April 15-22. The event is always held during the week of Earth Day.

This year’s initiative included the following drives:

  • E-cycling drive – Over 2,500 lbs. of electronics collected. All were encouraged to bring in items from home such as computers, TVs, printers, and other similar electronics that are typically costly to recycle. Items were properly recycled using Next Level for Recycling (NLR), Ashforth’s year-round recycling hauler.
  • Clothing drive – 18 bags of clothing were collected and donated to Person-to-Person. Person‐to‐Person is a volunteer organization providing emergency food, clothing, furniture, financial assistance, scholarships, and summer camperships and counseling services to more than 18,000 men, women, and children in Fairfield County.
  • Book drive – 230 books were collected and donated to the Ferguson Library in Stamford. The Ferguson Library provides free and equal access to information, ideas, books and technology to educate and enrich the Stamford community.
  • Eyeglasses – over 300 eyeglasses were collected and donated to the Stamford’s Lions Club. Recycled glasses were sorted by the volunteers at the Lion’s Club and distributed to people in need in low and middle income communities.

An environmental awareness table was located in each of the building lobbies that featured “green” literature and other educational materials. Each building held a drawing for a “green” prize bag which contained an assortment of sustainable items including eco-friendly household cleaners, farm share program gift certificates, and other “green” products.
