Through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Ashforth’s three owned properties in CT –  3001 Stamford Square and 707 Summer Street in Stamford and Greenwich Plaza in Greenwich – now purchase 50% of their electricity generated from renewable resources.

We are working to diversify our electricity procurement in order to reduce the environmental impact of our buildings’ energy consumption. In addition to reducing our organization’s emissions footprint, we hope to support the renewable energy market. According to the EPA, by purchasing green power, organizations are helping to protect the environment and contribute to the development of domestic energy resources. These voluntary actions help increase the aggregate demand for renewable electricity, and, over time, influence the way electricity is generated.

The most significant benefit of renewable energy is that it creates low or no emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Generating electricity from renewable sources prevents emissions that would otherwise be released from fossil fuel generation. In other words, when renewable energy generation is delivered to the grid, it prevents a more polluting source, like oil, coal or natural gas, from generating the same amount of electricity.
