Tom Walsh, Executive Vice President of A.P. Construction Company, has received the 2024 Construction Institute’s prestigious David N. LaBau Lifetime Recognition Award. He was honored at the Institute’s Annual Dinner & Awards event in June.

The David N. LaBau Lifetime Recognition Award honors a lifetime of dedication to the Construction Institute and a continued impact on the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. The award is named after David N. Labau, FAIA, a founding Principal of the SLAM Collaborative. He chaired the AIA committee for the creation of the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Hartford and was a founding member of the Construction Institute. Awarded only 14 times in the Institute’s 49-year history, Walsh joins Laura Cruickshank of the University of Connecticut as this year’s recipients.

“Tom’s extensive experience has been instrumental in shaping A.P. Construction’s success. His leadership and dedication are highly respected within our company and industry,” said Andy Ashforth, CEO & President of A.P. Construction Company. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have Tom on our team and are proud to see him receive this well-deserved recognition,” added Ashforth.

For over four decades Walsh has led numerous construction projects including high-tech semiconductor and pharmaceutical research facilities, high-rise office buildings, and heavy industrial projects. Some of his more notable projects include Chelsea Piers Connecticut, the Arena at Harbor Yard, the UCONN Downtown Stamford Building, the White Plains Hospital Dickstein Cancer Center, 66 Summer Street Residential Tower, the Advanced Semiconductor Technology Center for IBM Corp., a 600,000-square-foot Pharmaceutical Research Center for Bristol Myers Squibb and the one million square foot Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building Complex in Oakland, CA.

“Recognized for his expertise, Tom has frequently contributed as a speaker at the Construction Institute’s events, discussing leadership and economic growth. Beyond his career milestones, he has been a supporter of the Institute’s ethos of cooperative leadership. His strategic insights at A.P. Construction Company have been pivotal in driving innovation and adding value to the industry. Tom’s impressive educational background and dedication to progress in his field exemplify the esteemed career that the David N. LaBau Lifetime Recognition Award acknowledges,” said Nancy Greenwald, Executive Director, Construction Institute.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award from the Construction Institute. For over 45 years, I have been fortunate to work on a wide range of projects, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with so many talented colleagues and industry partners,” said Tom Walsh, Executive Vice President, A.P. Construction Company.

Mr. Walsh earned a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a Master of Building Construction from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He is also a third-generation member of The Moles, a heavy construction industry association based in NYC. Walsh is a Stamford resident.
