ASHFORTH EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR
For Outstanding Performance, Service and Commitment
Michelle Hodges has been a member of ABA’s Management Services Team since 2011. However, her first assignment was in 1998 with the Corporate Finance Team as a Junior Staff Accountant. Since joining ABA’s Property Management Services Team some of her notable work includes working on the divisions’ cash book, setting up Yardi Pay Scan, and training the staff on its use, tracking Government 1099 forms at all our managed and owned properties, setting up the fraud protection “Positive Pay” and authoring a manual on how to use it, and setting up portals for all utility company accounts. In earlier years she had to learn three different accounting software platforms (and use them simultaneously) and worked on a large project to switch over The Hartford’s vendors to a new accounting platform with all that entailed. Michelle has been Lisa Horvath’s “go to” person as she never says no to an assignment. She is the leader of the accounts payable department and keeps it running smoothly, especially during the last 20 months. She is also the Management Department’s motivator and cheerleader. She always participates in Company charitable activities, even coming up with some of her own. She keeps everyone moving forward and provides levity with her great sense of humor and is always happy to pull a good prank on someone. She is also NOT shy about teasing either Darrell or Andy! We are pleased to award the 2021 Albert B. Ashforth Employee of the Year to Michelle Hodges.
NOMINEES
Emily Hepworth of The Ashforth Company and Dimitri Seferidis of A.P. Construction were recognized as nominees for the 2020 Albert B. Ashforth Employee of the Year Award for outstanding performance, service and commitment.
Emily Hepworth has been with the Company since 2016. In that relatively short span of time, we already can’t imagine the office without her. She handles a nonstop onslaught of requests from so many different Company departments with such deftness that few are aware of how many hats she wears. In addition to backstopping the legal department and handling some of the Company’s most high maintenance executives, this employee always seems to be asking, “What else can I do to help?” Turns out that, for about eight weeks this past year, the answer to that question was: “run the entire Human Resources Department while both its employees are on maternity leave” a task she stoically handled. Somehow, despite all of this, she rarely seems harried or stressed. Her spirit is unsinkable she consistently answers the question “how’s it going?” with an emphatic “great!” and seems to mean it, even on a gloomy, rainy days. We are lucky to have her and her wonderful presence. We are pleased to nominate Emily for the 2021 Albert B. Ashforth Employee of the Year.
Dimitri Seferidis has been with the Company since June 2017. When Frank Fazekas retired in the fall of 2020, Dimitri stepped up as the Project Manager for the Maritime Aquarium project. He quickly impressed the Owner’s Representatives (yes, plural), the Aquarium management, our partner, O&G Industries, and the subcontractors on the project. The Maritime Aquarium project was not only a very technically difficult construction project, and a multi phased, publicly funded project with ownership involvement from The Aquarium, the City of Norwalk, and the Connecticut Department of Transportation. He was able to get the project on a predictable schedule by engaging the subcontractor’s management teams and getting the Ownership to start approving Change Orders. His ability to get all the stakeholders of the project to work together enabled the opening of the 4D Theater in January of 2021and the 150,000 gallon Seals Tank in early June of 2021. The proof of the respect he has from the Ownership group is that they asked that he remain on the project to do the Meerkats Exhibit. His work ethic, leadership skills and ability to problem solve make him a highly valued employee. We are pleased to nominate Dimitri as the 2021 Albert B. Ashforth Employee of the Year.
