A.P. Construction Completes White Plains Hospital Project

A.P. Construction has completed a building renovation and addition for the White Plains Hospital in White Plains, NY. This marked the second project that the company has completed for the hospital.

The $32 million project involved the construction of a new 38,000 square-foot medical office building adjacent to the existing Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center located on the hospital campus, and significantly upgrading the first floor, front lobby and façade of the cancer treatment center itself. This six-story building connects three levels to the cancer center and more than doubles the size of the hospital’s cancer facility to 70,000 square feet.

The new space includes new examination and treatment rooms, offices, conference rooms, restrooms, and amenities spaces. Additionally, a new state-of-the-art pharmacy was constructed in the lower level of the new medical office building. The project features a new two-story structural glass vestibule and a suspended porte-cochere, and landscaped areas surrounding the project. An existing four-story brick building was removed from the site at the location of the new structure.

Space constraints and logistics were a few of the more challenging aspects of this project, according to Tom Walsh, Executive Vice President of A.P. Construction. “Coordinating construction of the new building while maintaining a safe environment for the constant flow of patients to the existing cancer center required tremendous cooperation with the hospital and the doctors,” Walsh says. “Obviously, we were impacting them in terms of access, traffic, parking and noise, but with our careful site logistics planning, the construction went smoothly.”

Over the past 20 years, A.P. Construction has completed over $150 million in healthcare construction projects in Connecticut and New York. All of their employees who work on healthcare projects are Certified Healthcare Constructors (CHC). This certification qualifies you as highly-capable and shows that you understand the attention to detail necessary for optimal patient care.

A.P. Construction’s previous project completed for White Plains Hospital entailed a $2.1 million, 16,000-square-foot physical therapy and rehabilitation outpatient facility in Rye Brook, NY. Also in Westchester County, the company completed a 31,000-square-foot, $3.3 million renovation for Northern Westchester Hospital at Chappaqua Crossing in Chappaqua, NY and a $6.7 million project constructing 50,000 square feet of medical office space for WestMed in Rye, NY.

Specializing in hospital renovations, outpatient care facilities, and special needs housing for the elderly, A.P. Construction has completed a diverse range of projects that include intensive care units, operating rooms, clinical laboratories, cardiovascular care units, central processing areas, and post anesthesia care units. The company’s construction management services for healthcare work typically includes: budgeting, value engineering, subcontractor bid and award, safety and logistical planning, pre-purchase program, scheduling, phasing and construction.

A.P. Construction’s team overseeing the project included Vice President David Breidenbach, Project Managers Sean Hurley and David Sansone and Superintendents Mark Moran, Jorge Garcia, Chris Johnston, and Andrew Glassman.
